Geography of Chhapra
Geographically Chhapra, a city and headquarters of the Saran district in Bihar, is located at 25.7848°N Latitude and 84.7274°E Longitude. With an elevation of 36 metres (118 ft) it is situated near the confluence of rivers Ganges and Ghaghara. Patna, the capital of Bihar is located 70 kms from Chhapra. Due to the presence of naturally fertile soil, the land is largely arable. It is ideal for agriculture and sugarcane and maize are the predominant crops grown in the area.

Chhapra is a part of the Indo-Gangetic plains and the soil is mainly the Gangetic alluvium of the plains. This soil is mainly the young loam rejuvenated every year by constant deposition of sand, clay and silt usually brought by the floods. In fact, Chhapra is one most flood affected cities of the district.
