Chhapra a city and headquarters of the Saran district in Bihar is situated near the junction of the Ghaghara River and the Ganges River. Present day Chhapra came into existence in 1981 when each subdivision of the old Saran district became an independent district. Chhapra is a city that is witnessing a rapid population growth and urbanization. It is around 85 kms from Patna and linked to the state capital by NH19. Chhapra has 3 subdivisions namely Chhapra Sadar, Marhaura and Sonepur with 20 blocks. The Chhapra Municipality is quite
unique in that it was first formed in 1864. Today it has an area of
16.69 sq. km and consists of a total of 44 wards. According to the 2001
census it has a population of 179,190. This means that the Chhapra
